CIMARRON
The Cimarron is flowing about 28cfs out of the lake and bouncing between 50-55cfs down in town. Fishing has been good this past week, the private water in Ute Park has been doing the best. The public water has been doing good also. Water temps are good and color is ranging from stained to almost murky which means the browns aren't skittish. Seeing a few tiny mayflies and a few caddis. Mostly using dry-n-droppers with most of the action being on the dropper nymph. The Cima handles runoff well and normally fishes solid during May, making it a great fishery to start the season on.
COW CREEK
Cow Creek has just started fishing well. Water temps are ok and flows are up a bit but not blown, so it is fishable and should only be fishing better going by early May. Using some nymphing techniques, dry-n-droppers and the occasional streamer. Some very nice bows and browns are lurking in the deep pools of Cow Creek. Haven't fished the small lakes yet but they are probably starting to come on also. The month of May can be an exciting time on Cow Creek! The best way to experience CC is to fish it two consecutive days.
COSTILLA-RCCLA
Flowing about 95cfs near town. This is a fishable flow. The RCCLA stretch just below the Valle Vidal is slowly coming on and should be fishing steady by the middle of May. Remember the Valle Vidal section doesn't open for fishing until July 1.
OTHER WATERS
The PRR, Rio Grande and Red River have runoff and probably won't be fishing for a while.
ENCHANTED CIRCLE TROUT UNLIMITED
ECTU will be having its first banquet and fund raiser on Friday May 8, 2009 at the Sagebrush Inn in Taos, NM. For additional information on the banquet please email me.
